Artist Linda Wood

"Linda Wood was born in Birmingham and brought up in the picturesque surroundings of the Cotswolds. She always had an extreme interest in art and music during her school years in particular, one of her art teachers had a profound influence on her and encouraged her to consider a career in the arts. At the time it was the norm for girls automatically to go to secretarial college, and Linda Wood is particularly grateful to the art teacher who persuaded her to consider another vocation. After leaving school she spent two years on an Art Design Foundation Course, followed by a Degree in Surface Design at De Montfort University. On leaving university she established her own design consultancy, producing designs for a variety of end products for manufacturers around the world. Her artistic inspiration comes from a variety of sources including Italian frescoes and the techniques employed in producing them and the art and architecture of Venice and Florence. She also particularly admires the American designer Jack Lenor Larson and his innovative use of colour design and fabric structure. In her artwork today, Linda Wood tries to convey an air of simplicity and space, together with a contemporary feel and use of interesting textural effects. The structure of Japanese art and style has a particular influence on her work. As well as her designs for surface patterns, Linda Wood paints on canvas for her home, rather than to exhibit. She has exhibited her commercial work regularly in New York, Paris, London, Frankfurt and Brussels."
